How to stay focused while working from home!

Working remotely offers a variety of benefits to employees who are able to choose it. Recent developments affecting the entire planet due to the pandemic have been the cause of the introduction of these new, ‘digital’ forms of employment.
Saving time and reducing the cost of travel, reducing stress and improving the balance between private and working life are just some of the advantages that can be enjoyed by those who work from their own offices or even from home.
However, in many cases when working in an environment outside of the ‘traditional’ workplace, you may experience distractions that… would not be a concern if you did not provide remote employment.
So, if you plan to work from home or have already managed to be professionally engaged from your chosen space, here are some tips to help you stay focused and dramatically increase your productivity and performance.
Practical tips to stay focused while working from home

Create a workspace
Most people who choose to work remotely do not have a personal workspace and work from the comfort of their home environment – often with younger family members present. In order to keep distractions to a minimum, it is recommended that you create an office space at home. Even if you don’t have a separate room, choose a part of the house where it is quieter and place everything you need during work close by.
Limit the expected “interruptions”
Every interruption you take during working hours fragments your concentration, no matter how short it may be. While you can’t eliminate all distractions, limiting them has a beneficial impact on your workday. Limit notifications on your phone, for starters, as it’s the biggest “culprit” for… interruptions. As for distractions from young children, it is suggested that you share your schedule with your partner or other caregiver so they know when you are working and when you are available. In addition, it is recommended that you try noise reduction headphones while you work because blocking out the sound distractions around you helps you stay focused.

Schedule the necessary breaks
The longer you work without a break, the harder it becomes to stay focused. Everyone’s brain needs time to process and assimilate information so short and frequent breaks help maintain your concentration for longer.
Be consistent with both scheduling your tasks and breaks, as scheduling them and not taking advantage of them obviously has no benefit. Make sure to take your breaks after you complete a task and to better implement this tactic, you can use an app or other work time management tool.
Take one task at a time
Whether you set your own working hours or they are set by your employers, try to take on one task at a time. Ask for priorities and implement them to achieve completion of each task before settling on the next. If you’re having a really hard time concentrating, get up and move around for a few minutes-a change of scenery, even if it’s just walking from one room of the house to another, helps clear your mind and restore concentration.
