Digital nomads are those who work remotely, from any part of the world, either as employees of a corporation or as self-employed.<\/p>\n

The latest figures (according to MBO partners, labor research, and consulting firm) show an ever-increasing trend in digital nomads, with nearly 5 million people in this employment status in the US.\u00a0Most of them practice “creative” professions related to fashion, arts, and writing as well as other, modern professions related to IT and digital marketing.<\/p>\n

Would you like to travel, visit other countries around the world, meet new friends and at the same time be able to work and get paid regularly, regardless of your location?\u00a0If so, then you too can become one of the thousands of digital nomads, a professional category of workers that has been expanding in recent years.<\/p>\n

Why are they called digital nomads?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, digital nomads are simply workers who live\u2026 nomadically, i.e. they provide their services remotely, without having a fixed seat. They travel to different cities and countries of the world and work with laptops from wherever place they are located.<\/p>\n

The phenomenon of “digital nomads” is not so new. It started with the “entry” of technology into everyday life, a few decades ago and specifically from the early 1980s onwards.<\/p>\n

Their number started to increase and further multiply, with the expansion of the Internet, mainly from the early 2010s until now when there is a considerable number of remote workers.<\/p>\n

Digital nomads are now estimated to number in the tens of millions around the world, with most, according to new research, coming from the US, Germany, Britain, France and Russia.<\/p>\n

The largest percentage of digital nomads is found in the age group between 20 and 40 years old, while most of them are not married.<\/p>\n

The majority, about 50% of the total, are freelancers or have their own small businesses, while the rest provide their services to specific businesses, as salaried remote workers.<\/p>\n

A percentage of around 30% practice professions related to IT while another significant percentage (estimated at 20%) deal with Marketing and especially digital marketing.<\/p>\n

Digital nomads in Greece<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Greece, the phenomenon of digital nomads has been increasing in recent years. It is estimated that hundreds of workers in the country, given the economic crisis during the last decade, as well as the development of the IT sector, packed their bags and traveled to other countries, providing their services remotely.<\/p>\n

This trend is strengthened, however, from another direction too, since many digital nomads are hosted in small towns and islands. There are active communities of foreign digital nomads in Rhodes and Lesvos, but their exact number is not easy to determine as they are constantly on the move.<\/p>\n

The community of digital nomads choosing Greece to work remotely started to grow rapidly at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic and tends to grow further due to some\u2026 tax breaks.<\/p>\n

In particular, in January 2021 a law was passed in our country which gave a 50% discount on income tax for digital nomads who settled in the territories within the year. As long as favorable regulations continue, this phenomenon will intensify in our country, more and more, following the trends that prevail and are present internationally.<\/p>\n
